While researching the Weaver Mining District I came across many interesting tales and facts about Stanton, Weaver and Rich Hill. To celebrate the release of the Rich Hill / Stanton FootPrint, I will be making daily posts about the area. Some fact, some fiction, some not yet settled.

The image above was published in the 1887 book "Central Arizona; For Homes, For Health, For Wealth" by William O'Neill. The image is of Charles P. Stanton in front of his store in Weaver.

Mr. Oneill dramatically describes the territory of Central Arizona in a way only a pioneer looking for company could. The book includes a fairly long description of the dam at Walnut Grove and all the riches the water stored will bring. In 1890 the Walnut Grove dam burst, sending a wall of water down the Hassayampa taking at least 50 lives. It was never rebuilt.

HERE is what he had to say about Rich Hill.

You can download a PDF of the entire book (courtesy of Google Books ) HERE.

Check back tomorrow for more on Rich Hill. And browse on over to FootPrints to see all the details on the Rich Hill / Stanton FootPrint.
